Yksi Jewellery Box

The Yksi Jewellery Box was made from beautifully figured rippled sycamore and rosewood, chosen to create a striking contrast between light and dark. The rippled grain of the sycamore catches the light as you move around the piece, giving the timber an almost dancing quality.

Inside, sapele dividers create individual compartments for jewellery, with a removable tray revealing a hidden storage space underneath. The dark rosewood used in the lid and interior provides a rich contrast against the pale sycamore exterior.

This particular box was made for a very special person - my wife - as a thank you for putting up with me for all these years. A smaller project than many of my furniture commissions, but one with a great deal of meaning behind it.

And since yksi means “one” in Finnish, it continues that subtle Finnish influence running through pieces such as Kaari and Kaamos. It feels particularly appropriate here too: a one-off piece made for one particular person.
